St. Christopher School
Each year, we encourage our students to become involved in a charitable service project to foster activism within the global community. Our first year, we decided to direct our efforts towards a charity that directly benefits children, so we signed on to help raise funds for Ecole Mixte Action Fraternelle in Haiti. Our students rose to the challenge and exceeded their fundraising goal. As our continued hope, is to foster a sense of responsibility and fellowship with others in their age group who do not have access to the same basic necessities of daily life, we have decided to take on an entire project on our own this year. Two years ago, we decided to sponsor a well in South Sudan. We encouraged community outreach, by sending student groups to local business and fellowship groups to explain our cause and solicit financial support. There were additional fundraising and educational opportunities throughout the year. Again, our students surpassed the goal. last year we again sponsored a school in Haiti, while also supporting parish relief efforts in Puerto Rico, and greatly surpassed our goal. This year, we will focus our efforts for maintenance to a well and water supply in the Dominican Republic. This will help keep the water clean and flowing at a school with a large Haitian population. Our 6th, 7th and 8th graders will participate in a walk in June to “put themselves in the shoes” of those for whom water is not easily accessible. We will also be including the primary grades, by having them complete an abbreviated walk.

St. Clare Walker Middle School
As part of a county where many of our residents live or work on the water, we know the importance of clean water. This project will not only help our students learn about and educate others on the importance of clean water, but will also allow our students, teachers, and members of the community to collaborate while raising money for a great cause.

Stephen F. Austin State University
We are college students, who are working to become elementary school teachers. In our class, we are learning the best ways to teach social studies to elementary students. We have learned that service learning is a great way to get students involved and engaged in social studies. Our class decided that the best way to learn about service learning is to jump in and get involved. We hope to inform other students on campus, as well as people in the community, about the water problems around the world. Our goal is to raise awareness, and help make a difference in the lives of primary students on the other side of the globe.

Steve and Carrie: Team Siegel
Steve and I are excited to join our friend, Patty Hall and her H2O for Life team, in Uganda next month. We have been supporters of H2O for Life for over 10 years. H2O for Life provides the support needed to build latrines and provide water so children can be healthy and continue their education. In the US, these service-learning opportunities are designed to engage youth to become global leaders. We are supporting the school projects in Uganda you can see below. Please consider a donation today.

St Gregory the Great Church Middl...
We are a parish Religious Formation group (NOT a school). In our parish we try to instill in our young people the need to reach out and help others through the Corporal Works of Mercy. Many of our students come from upper middle class families and do not want for much. They need to realize how others live on a daily basis.

Stillwater Junior High School
The Lost Boys of Sudan are 27,000 boys orphaned during the 2nd Sudanese Civil War who undertook a harrowing journey to refugee camps in Ethiopia and Kenya, surviving separation from families, war, hunger, wild animals and disease. In 2001, 3800 Lost Boys of Sudan were resettled in the U.S. Our project began in 2009 with a grant from The Partnership Plan to purchase copies of They Poured Fire On Us From the Sky, a Lost Boy memoir, and host one of its authors, Benjamin Ajak. A chance meeting in San Diego planted the seed for our partnership. When Patty Hall of H2O for Life learned that Benjamin would be speaking in Stillwater, she contacted teacher Sara Damon and suggested that Benjamin’s visit could be an opportunity to help bring clean, safe water to South Sudan by raising funds for Water for South Sudan, founded by Lost Boy Salva Dut of Rochester, NY. After raising $5,000 the first year, our project has grown and evolved with each school year. We have hosted South Sudanese refugees Benson Deng, John Bul Dau, Alephonsion Deng, Moses Joknhial II and Kuoth Wiel. Each shared their powerful life experiences with students in classrooms and with the broader Stillwater community. In addition to hosting guests, we have had the opportunity to Skype with two South Sudanese refugees, Sebastian Maroundit and Buey Tut. Stillwater Junior High, with the support of our school district and community, has raised more than $80,000 and funded nine wells through speaker events, screenings of the films Girl Rising and The Good Lie, t-shirt sales, an annual Walk For Water, outreach to local churches and service organizations and school-based fundraisers. We’ve even set a Guinness World Record!

St. Jerome Catholic School
Student service is a part of the Mission of St. Jerome School. This partnership with H2O for life allows us to be the hands and feet of Christ. In addition, it serves to help us appreciate, rather than take for granted, our many blessings.
