H2O FOR LIFE PRIVACY POLICY

This H2O for Life Privacy Policy (the “Privacy Policy”) applies to the h2oforlifeschools.org website (the “Website”). The Website is owned and operated by H2O for Life, a nonprofit corporation organized under Minnesota law (“H2O,” “we,” “our”) with offices in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. This Privacy Policy applies to all users and visitors to the Website, whether or not they register (“User,” “you,” “your”).

H2O provides a service-learning opportunity for schools, youth groups, and faith based organizations to raise awareness about the water crisis while taking action to provide funds for water, sanitation and hygiene education for a partner school in a developing country. The service opportunities and projects sponsored by H2O shall be referred to as “Projects”.

1. Our Commitment to Privacy
This Privacy Policy explains our information practices and defines your options for controlling our use and collection of your information.
By visiting the Website or participating in the Projects you agree to the collection and use of information in the manner described in this Privacy Policy. If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you by email or by a notice on our homepage of the Website.
You are responsible for reviewing the Website periodically for any modification to this Privacy Policy. Any access to the Website or participation in the Projects by you after notice of revisions to this Privacy Policy shall constitute and be deemed to be your agreement to such revisions.

2. The Information We Collect
This policy applies to all information collected via the Projects plus any information you provide to us by email, by telephone, or in writing.
You provide personal information to us when you register to participate in the Projects and when you request information from us. The personal information we collect from users registering for the Projects is:

User’s name (your name or the name of a teacher, school administrator, parent or a guardian)
Display Name (this name is displayed to other users)
Username
Password
Email Address
Class Name (a “class” is a group of users defined by a user registering for the Projects)

We store all personal information submitted by users for registration purposes, and all information posted to Website or shared as part of the Projects (e.g. text, video, audio, photo or graphics). When you post or comment on the Website or as part of the Projects, other users or visitors to the Website or participants in the Projects may be able to view them depending on their viewing privileges.
We urge users to exercise caution when posting personally identifiable or other personal information on the website OR in conjunction with the Projects. Remember, any information you disclose in these areas may become public information through the actions of any user having viewing privileges.
In addition to the personal information you supply, we may automatically collect non-personal information to evaluate how the Website and Projects are used. We collect non-personal data to make the Website and Projects work better for users in the following ways: to improve their design, layout, and appearance; to provide personalization for users; and to evaluate the performance of any communication. The technologies we use to gather this non-personal information may include IP addresses, web browser cookies, clear gifs, browser detection, and blog metadata.

3. How We Use Information
We collect personally identifiable information from registered users so that they may have secure access to the Projects. Users are responsible for safeguarding their own usernames, passwords, and email addresses. If your registration or account information security has been breached, you can contact us for assistance.

Our primary goal for collecting non-personal user information is to improve the performance and design of the Website and Projects.

We may use your email address to answer email we receive from you, to provide you with information regarding parental or guardian consent for those under 13 and to provide status updates for the Projects. We will not share your email address with outside parties without your consent, except in conjunction with operating or managing the Website or the Projects.

From time to time, you may be invited to participate in optional surveys or contests, and H2O may request that you provide some or all of the above listed personally identifiable information in those surveys or contests. We use information collected through contests to contact winners and award prizes. We also use information collected from surveys to learn about our Projects participants and Website visitors in order to improve our Website and develop new Projects.

H2O uses, “cookies”, “clear gifs”, browser detection, and blog metadata to provide a better experience on this Website and in conjunction Projects. Third party technologies such as cookies may also be used for the same purposes.

Cookies are files placed onto the file storage system of your computer when you visit the Website so the Website will automatically recognize you each time visit the Website and deliver content specific to you. We also use a technology called “clear gifs”. Clear gifs are tiny graphics with unique identifiers that are used to track emails and online movements, helping us understand what communication campaigns and content are effective.

We detect the type of web browser you are using to optimize the performance of the Website based on the browser preferences of our users and visitors. To learn about how visitors use our Website we also examine certain data which show the paths User take through the Website and how much time they spend in certain areas.

H2O may contract with unaffiliated third parties to provide services for the Website, such as software for the Website, User communications, analyzing and evaluating the information we collect, and other services. When we do this, we may provide your personally identifiable information to third parties only to provide those services, and they are not authorized to use your personally identifiable information for any other purpose.

To the extent that the information that H2O collects as part of the Projects includes personal information regarding student users, the teacher or school responsible for such student’s use of the Projects may request at any time that H2O delete all such personal information. Except as necessary to provide the Projects or as otherwise set forth in this privacy policy, H2O shall not share, disclose, create a personal profile regarding a student user or otherwise use such personal information for any purpose.

4. Our Commitment to Data Security
Access to your personally identifiable information is limited to authorized H2O staff and vendors and is restricted by password protection mechanisms. Although total security does not exist on the Internet, H2O will make commercially reasonable efforts to safeguard the information that you submit.

5. Participation in Projects by Children
H2O will not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13 without the parental or guardian consent required by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998. TO PARTICIPATE IN CERTAIN OF OUR PROJECTS YOU MIGHT BE ASKED TO PROVIDE US WITH CERTAIN PERSONAL INFORMATION (FOR EXAMPE: YOUR NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER, EMAIL ADDRESS, PHOTO OR USER NAME). IF YOU ARE UNDER 13, YOU MUST OBTAIN YOUR PARENT OR GUARDIAN’S APPROVAL BEFORE YOU CAN PROVIDE PERSONAL DATA TO US.

Only adults are authorized to register and create project accounts with administrative privileges. The adult or organization registering (or maintaining or moderating) a “class” or “organization” and subsequently creating and/or adding students/users to the account is responsible for (1) ASSISTING US WITH OBTAINING permission of a parent or guardian of any users under 13 who use the Projects through a class account; and (2) making sure that their use of the Projects is in compliance with school guidelines and/or state or federal laws and regulations.

6. Disclosure of Your Information
We reserve the right to disclose your personally identifiable information as required by law and when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or comply with a judicial proceeding, court order or legal process.

We may decide to transfer or assign our organization or merge or combine our organization with another organization. In any transaction of this kind your personally identifiable information may be transferred. If we intend to so transfer your personal information, you will be notified by a notice placed on the Website or by an email to your last known email address, as indicated in our records.

This Projects may contain links to other websites. H2O is not responsible for the privacy practices of any other websites. We encourage you to be aware when you leave the Website, and to read the privacy statements of each website that collects personally identifiable information. This statement of privacy practices applies only to information collected by H2O via the Website.

7. Your Privacy Preferences
When you sign up as a Projects participant you may begin receiving communications such as e-mail newsletters. Users generally find this type of information useful. If you do not want to receive these updates, you must “opt-out” by unchecking the “Add me to the mailing list” box on the registration page, or should you choose to opt-out after registering, you can select the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of the email and follow the opt-out instructions.

8. How to Access Your Personal Data
Send us an email at info@h2oforlifeschools.org if you want to access, review, correct or delete your personally identifiable information collected by us (in some instances H2O for Life may be required by law to keep and preserve certain information). To protect your privacy and security, we may require a user ID and password to verify your identity before granting you the right to access, review, make corrections or delete your personally identifiable information.

9. Donor Privacy Policy
H2O for Life values the privacy of its donors. Donor information is kept strictly confidential. We do not sell, rent or trade the names of our donors. We will not share or sell donor personal information with any third party, nor send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations. Donor contact information is kept in password-protected database on a secure network. Credit card donations are processed by a reputable e-commerce provider on a secure, encrypted website and credit card numbers are not retained in the H2O for Life offices.
