St. Paul’s Primary School in Zomba District, Malawi, has an extremely large enrollment of 2,665 students and only 24 teachers with a sprawling campus of 15 classrooms. Students walk to school from as far as 7km away. In the overcrowded classrooms, students sit on the floor as there are no desks to accommodate them. Beneficiaries of this project will also include many of the 17,000 community members. BEFORE: The school had one shallow borehole well within its premises however, it breaks down frequently and dries up during the dry season (April-November), forcing the students to spend class time retrieving water […]

Muggaga Project Complete

Posted by Steve Hall on May 19

Muggaga Secondary School is located in Mpigi, Uganda, along the shores of Lake Victoria. There are 447+ teens plus teachers and staff who were in need of safe toilets, bathing areas and handwashing. In Uganda, secondary schools are much less common than primary schools because not everyone goes to high school. Many students have to ‘board’ at secondary schools (live at), which is the case at Muggaga. This means facilities are needed to shower and change clothes every day. Teen boys and girls were forced to share bathing areas and toilets, which led to dangerous situations and no privacy. The […]
