VIP Latrine Construction - Maggya School

Posted by Steve Hall on October 18, 2022

In Mpigi, Uganda, our implementing partner, Drink Local Drink Tap has partnered with the community and school for many years.

BEFORE:
Maggya Primary School was in dire need of two latrine blocks (VIP- ventilated improved pit latrines) to help 513 students and teachers. The stench of the old latrines was unbearable, they were cracked everywhere and the floor was ready to collapse. The latrines were not ventilated, not private, and the size of the rooms could not safely accommodate all the people. Drink Local Drink Tap builds long-lasting, drainable latrines which cannot collapse and will last for decades. By building these latrine blocks, boys and girls can stay safe and healthy, be more encouraged to attend school and feel proud of their environment. Going in the open without privacy and stepping in other peoples’ mess can be an issue of the past.

AFTER:
Thank you to Matoska International School in MN for trusting Drink Local Drink Tap with your generous donation to help the people of Maggya Primary School in Mpigi, Uganda. You’ve directly impacted the lives of an estimated 513 people and all who come after them. You did this by funding two VIP latrine blocks and two hand-washing facilities that will reliably serve this community. The students, teachers and families are thrilled that they now have the ability to “go” in a safe structure with handwashing facilities. They truly believed this would never be possible. The latrine blocks that you funded break down barriers to education, safety, gender equity, and hygiene. In December 2018,  Drink Local Drink Tap constructed a deep borehole, and now with the completion of sanitation facilities, Maggya Primary School has complete WASH services. Thank you for your generosity, trust, and courage to help! We truly look forward to continuing to partner with the people of Mpigi to improve basic health.
