Pure Water, Brighter Futures at Okir Ladek Okwok

Posted by Steve Hall on October 8

In the Koch-Goma sub-county of Nwoya district, Uganda, 425 students at Okir Ladek Okwok Primary School used to face a daily health crisis.

The school relied on a spring over half a mile away. Shared with local livestock, the groundwater was unsafe to drink and repeatedly triggered stomach illnesses and skin infections, forcing children to miss school.

Thanks to our implementing partner, Drop in the Bucket, a new borehole well was drilled right on school grounds—giving students immediate access to clean, safe drinking water. Now, attendance is up, illness is down, and 425 children can focus on their education.

A huge thank you to The Giolas Foundation in Illinois for funding this transformation!
