Walk for Water - Medina High School, Medina, OH
The Service Learning Class at MHS organized a Walk for Water fundraiser for the H2O for Life non profit that focuses on the worldwide water crisis. This organization helps millions of people around the world who don’t have access to clean, usable water, and provides them with the help that they need. 2.2 billion people worldwide are affected by the clean water crisis. This crisis poses a multitude of issues to children in schools.
Over 80 students raised over $4000 for students in Uganda to help them make a rainwater collection system in order for the children to get clean drinking water.  From 4-10th periods on Wednesday, October 29th, students walked around the track carrying one gallon of water to mimic a normal day’s walking for thousands of people. Students who participated collected a minimum of $50 in pledges to walk.

“The Service Learning class did an amazing job organizing this fundraiser.  From studying the UN Sustainable Development Goals, then deciding on a fundraiser and working through all the details to make this happen, the kids should be so proud of themselves.  It was a great experience for them to practice the leadership skills we learn about in class.” states Laura Calaiacovo, who teaches the Service Learning class.
