Water Blogged

Go Bears!

In White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Girls Hockey and Girls Basketball are teaming up to raise money for a water and sanitation project at a school in Kenya. The school is currently in need of $13,000 and our hope is that between the hockey and basketball communities, we can exceed that goal.

The village in Kenya does have a well, but it’s seasonal and the water is not potable. Kenya experiences its dry season for nearly eight months of the year, the other four months they have water but it’s only useful for bathing purposes. The water is not suitable for cooking, cleaning, or drinking because of bacterial diseases. Even when the students are able to find water, it often causes diarrhea, Typhoid, and stomachaches that lead to more student absences.

The biggest wish of the school is to build a borehole well using the water table underneath the school. It would give them access to water year-round which will allow them to also build much-needed handwashing stations and bathrooms.

During the basketball and hockey games, we will be doing a game of Chuck a Puck or Basketball Toss. Each ball/puck will cost $10. Along with the purchase of a ball/puck each donor will get a free H2O for Life t-shirt and the chance to win a gift card.

Your help is greatly appreciated. Go Bears!
