All about Ruhija School, Uganda

ALL ABOUT RUHIJA COMMUNITY ORPHANS & NEEDY CHILDREN’S
NURSERY AND PRIMARY SCHOOL
Our school started in 2012 with 47 pupils. It started with a nursery section (baby class, middle class and top class). Pupils used to learn under trees. From there school administrators began to construct grass thatched houses for pupils to study from. Currently, the school is looking smart because it has some permanent classrooms although some of them are still temporary. The school’s head teacher is Mr. Owoyesigire Nazarious. We have 10 teachers, two cooks and people who clean the compound and the dormitories. We all work hard so that our school is a smart, clean, and great place.

Dear my friends.
I am called Ninsiima Anitah. I am 15 years old. I am very happy to write to you about myself. I come from the village called Katoma which is near the school I study from called Ruhija Community Orphans Needy Nursery and Primary School. I joined this school in 2017 last year. I live with my grandparents because my mother separated from my father. Due to dancing and performing well in class, the school gave me a sponsorship to study without paying anything. From there, pupils liked me to the extent of choosing me as a headgirl. I am still a headgirl at my school. My hobbies are dancing, singing and running. With all those about me, I remain your friend.
Hello, I am called Ainembabazi Anthony.
I am 13 years of age and I am so happy to write to you about myself. I joined this school (Ruhija Community Orphans Needy Nursery & Primary School) in 2013. At school, pupils like me so much because in 2016, they selected me as a headboy. I am still a headboy though the school is planning to choose another headboy. As a headboy I have been working hard so as to be a good example for the rest of the pupils. My hobbies are playing football and running. In football, I have been scoring many goals which are more than 80. At running, I have been running very fast in all competitions. With all those, I remain your friend in class 7.
ALL ABOUT CLASS 7
Hello we are class 7. We are the oldest in our school and set a good example for the younger pupils. Our class is made up of 14 pupils: 10 boys and 4 girls. Our teachers are Mr. Ngabirano and Mr. Celestine who are both very nice, but also strict.

Class 7 lessons
Hello! We are children from class 7. Lessons at school here are very interesting and we are very taught by Mr. Celestine and Mr. Nyabirano. We sometimes get help from the Head teacher called Owoyesigire Nazarious who teaches us Maths. We study other lessons like science, social studies and English.
Our classroom
Our classroom is almost big and has a big chalkboard. On this chalkboard teachers write difficult spellings and some calculations. We have our own personal bags to keep our reading books during lesson time.
The school academic work
This year, class 7 have been learning about school holidays in English. Both subjects have become well known among our classmates.
English
In our English work, we learn how to punctuate our writing, write stories and are still learning new words. English is our favourite subject because it is what we use at school.
ALL ABOUT CLASS 6
Hi! We are class 6. We are among the oldest and set a good example for the younger pupils. Our class is made up of 12 pupils, 5 girls and 7 boys. Our teacher is Mr. Celestine who is very nice and also well experienced in teaching. We usually get help from other teachers who teach in other classes for example Mr. Paul, Mr. Ngabirano, Mr. Prosper, Miss Penelope, Miss Rossette and Mr. Francis, who support us brilliantly.

Hello, my name is Fulidah. I am 13 years of age. I like volleyball and running. I have an older brother called Prosper and a younger sister called Doreen. My older brother goes to a high school called Nyaruganga and he is 15 years of age. My sister is 4.
Hello, my name is Letencia and I am 12 years old. I have two younger sisters called Faith and Peron. I also have a brother called Gideon. My hobbies are volleyball and skipping a rope. I also enjoy playing netball.

Class 6 lessons
Hello, we are children from class 6. Lessons at our school are very well taught by Mr. Paul and Mr Celestine. They are very good! We do Maths, English, Science and Social Studies. Sometimes, we have other teachers from other classes to teach us some important things like songs.
Our classroom
Our classroom is big and has a black board (chalkboard). On this board, teachers write some difficult spellings, like ‘characteristics’. We have our own personal bags to keep our reading books in during lesson time.
Our school’s academic work
This class 6 has been learning about the classification of animals in science and debating in English.
Topic
During the topic, we have learned much about vertebrates and invertebrates in science. This topic has helped us to know animals with a backbone and those without a backbone.
English
In our English work, we learn how to punctuate our writing. English is our favourite subject because teachers are always encouraging us to speak it.
Sports and clubs
We like to participate in all sports and clubs at our school. The teachers who teach us sports are Mr. Ngabirano, Miss Penelope, and Miss Medius. The sports clubs that we have taken part in are athletics, football, volleyball and netball. Football and athletics are our favourite clubs. Class 6 members always play with other classes and we are the ones best in the above sports. We have so many necessities used during the class competitions for example balls, playground and others. Most of all we love singing and dancing!
Food
At our school, we are very lucky to have different dinners like cabbages mixed with beans, posho (Akahunga), sweet potatoes, greens (doddo), pumpkins and silver fish. Our favourite is cabbage mixed with beans plus posho. At breaktime, we always have breakfast of maize flour because we are very hungry from the work we have done. At lunch time, we all become busy eating from our classes because our dining room is not fully constructed. We wash our hands before and after eating.
Water
Up until this year we had to collect water from a stream about 1km from the school. Every morning the pupils would go to get the water. But now we have a water tank and when it rains we collect the water from the classroom roofs. It is great to have water in the school.
