Lukomera students have safe water!

Posted by Steve Hall on September 26, 2017

Thank you to Carl Sandburg Elementary/Discovery Community School, WA for bringing safe water to Lukomera C/U Primary School, Uganda

Check out your impact!

  • You brought clean water to 524 people
  • You eliminated 1.81 miles of walking per day
  • You reduced collection time by 17.50 hours per day
  • You replaced a Borehole well with a Rainwater Catchment System

Before:

While the closest water source for the students was a nearby borehole well, the well runs dry about once a week. Additionally, the surrounding community of 800 people also uses the well, so quantity of water is a concern.

Notes:

  • Calculations are based the on number of 20 liter jerrycans used each day at this facility: 35 jerrycans
  • One jerrycan per trip to original water source
  • Distance is calculated for a round trip, using GPS, as the crow flies
