Student Speech

Posted by Steve Hall on October 4, 2017

On October 22, Isabel Birkeland and Sydney Peterson provided a heartfelt youth keynote speech at our event. Best friends and high school seniors, they have organized a Walk for Water for the past 3 years in their local White Bear Lake community. Their efforts supported water and sanitation for a schools in Uganda and Cambodia.

Excerpts from their speech:

“We set small goals each day.  We went door to door in our neighborhood and set out to raise $150 no matter what. Sometimes it took 15 minutes, sometimes it took 6 hours. Because we were motivated to create change, on Saturday July 15th we had over 100 participants and raised close to $5000…. To MAKE A DIFFERENCE!”

Sydney and Isabel are passing on their walk to other neighborhood students who will carry the torch while they are away at college next year.  They hope their walk will become a community tradition.

Their overarching message?  “We committed to making a difference.  If we can do it, YOU can do it!” Thanks for being extraordinary WATER WARRIORS for H2O for Life.
