Candy Store, Walk for Water and more!

Posted by Steve Hall on May 17, 2022

The third grade class at King of Grace Lutheran School in Golden Valley, MN has participated in H2O for Life projects since 2013. This year the students will be raising funds by having a candy store, selling donuts, and participating in a Walk for Water. Keep scrolling to see these Water Warriors in action!

Candy Store is up and Running!
This year’s third grade class has opened its Candy Store and you can see it was an instant hit. The students made H2O presentations to the lower grade classes explaining what we were raising money for and asking for the school’s support. The Candy Store will be open for three weeks to give all the students a chance to work the store.

First Donut Day
Grades 3 & 4 combined to enter the donut orders for each grade. After all the orders were entered, we had orders for over 260 donuts. This was also a great opportunity for the students to learn how to enter data into a spreadsheet. They did an excellent job and had fun doing it!

More Crews Work the Store
The third-grade class is enjoying working in a store while learning how to help customers. Sales have been brisk and steady, and we are confident we will meet our goal of contributing $1,000 to H2O. Our thanks go out to all of the children and parents who are supporting our cause with purchases.

Student Thoughts
Doing the donuts sheets was fun because you get to work with 4th grade and you get to go to different classes and tell them what H20 is.

Working in the candy store is busy but fun, all the kids want to get their candy at the same time. The donut order is different by the money is to Help 2 to Others.

When we do the doughnut sale and the candy store, it feels great knowing we are helping kids like us get water. It is also very fun!    – Brooklyn

Final Day for the Store!
Just like in a real retail store, we decided to offer some special deals on slow-moving inventory. Sales started out slow until word got around that many items had been discounted. We also took advantage of the hot weather and offered up some ice-cold pop for sale which we were given by our school’s booster club. Thank you, boosters, for helping with our fundraiser.

Walk for Water
“Today was our annual “Walk for Water” and all students were invited to participate by walking the course carrying some water. It was great to see the number of students who participated and how dedicated they were to walk and raise money for H2O. Many of the children did more than 30 laps and some did more than 50! We also had a few students test their strength by carrying multiple gallons or the 10-liter water containers. It didn’t hurt to have some Ice Cream for sale to help give the walkers a little energy.”

Check out the heavy lifting! The girls at Tagamenda School have to carry in 10 liters of water which is very close to the orange coolers we had outside. Hopefully, our efforts will put an end to that.
