Why We Walk: Laura Skubic

Posted by Nick Coughlin on March 22, 2021

In honor of Earth Day on April 22nd, H2O for Life has teamed up with Waterboys to bring you the 2021 Virtual Walk for Water! We hope to raise $10,000 to support water, sanitation, and hygiene education projects around the world, and we’re inviting you to join us by creating your own fundraiser as part of the effort!

In the weeks leading up to Earth Day, we will be talking to staff members from both organizations about the global water crisis and what makes this issue so important. Today we spoke with Laura Skubic from H2O for Life.

With more than 12 years of experience in nonprofit sectors including hunger relief, workforce development, and educational fundraising, Laura joined H2O for Life in 2020 as the Project Manager for Water Guardians. The web-based program is anchored by a series of animated videos that teach students about the global water crisis and how they can create positive change locally and globally.

Laura was drawn to H2O for Life because she loves the idea of getting kids involved in bigger issues and helping them start thinking beyond themselves and their local community. She feels it’s important for people to be aware of global issues, especially here in the United States.

“Think about the past year and how many of us have washed our hands, you know, sometimes it feels like a hundred times a day without really giving it a second thought. That is not the case for everyone, and it should be. It should be a basic human right to have access to clean and safe water and sanitation. I think it’s an incredibly important issue and I’m really excited to be doing the virtual walk for water.”

If you’d like to join Laura and others for the 2021 Virtual Walk for Water, create your own personal fundraising page here and start raising funds to support WASH projects in honor of Earth Day.
