Sunrise Park Middle School - Water Balloon Challenge

Posted by Steve Hall on June 7, 2017

On June 2, Sunrise Park Middle IB World School hosted a culminating activity for their H2O for Life service-learning project supporting La Esperanza School in Costa Rica. In the spring, Sunrise and Central Middle School students visited Costa Rica as a part of a program titled “Weekwithout Walls”. It has become an annual trip to learn more about Costa Rica, participate in several school visits and volunteer activities. The trip also provided the opportunity for students to enjoy the beauty of a global partner country. Throughout the school year, students studied the impact of water both locally and around the world. They planned fundraising events and raised close to $900 for the project in Costa Rica, through H2O for Life’s service learning program. The White Bear Lake Rotary Club provided an additional $1000 to add to the water and sanitation project support. Working together as a team is always inspiring and as always, teachers are great participants. The students purchased a “chance” to be part of a “Water Balloon Challenge”- against the teachers! There were many wet students and teachers by the end of the event, and everyone had fun! In the words of youth- “It’s all about the water, dude!”
