Photos from Kenya

We are on a few days of safari at Kenyan game parks before we will visit our last 2 schools.  Today we spent time visiting a school for young mothers that need to be educated and learn a skill.  The home for the young women is sponsored by Messiah Lutheran Church in Minnesota.  We met 8 young ladies and 7 babies- one baby is due soon!  The house was inspiring and has set high expectations for the women. Our team spent about an hour playing with the children and visiting with the mothers.

We then began a long 5 hour journey to Nakuru Park.  The roads were terrible!  Unfortunately for me, the road is the same road that I have traveled previously on this visit.  Twice was not what I looked forward to. It’s hard to describe the bumps and rough roads- and the construction that led to bypasses that were narrow and busy.  But we made it, the rain clouds dissipated and we headed out to see animals.  We saw hippos, a rhino, the usual gazelles and finally a family of lions.  They were lounging in a tree.  We watched them for quite a while.

Tomorrow we will have another game drive and then head to Lake Navaisha to get ready for a hike up Mount Longonot.  We’ll climb the volcano and hope we make it to the top.

If the internet holds out, I’ll add several photos.  There are a few of life in Kathungu, projects on the agenda-animals to follow!
