Namikka Primary School is in Nakijju Village in the rural district of Gomba, Uganda.
Over 404 students and teachers currently endure a daily 2-kilometer walk to collect heavy water from an overcrowded community borehole. Upon returning to the school, they lack any means to filter the water to make it safe for consumption. For years, these children have waited for a reliable, on-site water supply and safe classroom filtration.
To address this critical need, our implementing partner, Drink Local Drink Tap, met with the school and local community to design an on-site rainwater catchment system tailored to the campus roof infrastructure. This project will install 20,000 liters of rainwater storage across two 10,000-liter systems, equip classrooms with three water filters, and establish a trained school WASH committee to ensure long-term maintenance and sustainability.
