Tanangozi Secondary School is a government institution situated in Mseke Ward, Iringa Region. Currently, the school enrolls a total of 874 students, including 459 girls and 415 boys, across Forms One to Four. The staff comprises 20 members, which includes both teaching and non-teaching personnel.
Tanangozi Secondary School is currently facing a significant challenge in accessing safe and clean water. Every morning, students are required to bring a 10-liter bucket of water from home. During break times, they are sent to fetch water from nearby streams and hand-dug wells. These water sources are unsafe and highly contaminated, as they are also used for agricultural and domestic activities, leading to pollution and posing serious health risks.

Waterborne diseases are prevalent among students and in the surrounding community. Additionally, girls, who account for over 50% of the student population, are particularly vulnerable. The lack of access to water limits their ability to manage menstrual hygiene effectively, which can result in absenteeism and negatively impact their academic performance. Moreover, the time spent fetching water interferes with students' learning and further affects their overall academic success.
The primary goal of this project is to ensure that the students at Tanangozi Secondary School have access to clean water. In collaboration with our implementing partner, St. Paul Partners, we will install a shallow borehole well equipped with a hand pump within the school premises. This initiative guarantees that students will have sufficient safe water, thereby increasing their classroom study time. Moreover, the availability of clean water is expected to greatly improve the health of not only the students and teachers but also the surrounding community members.
