Hillside Secondary, a non-government school in the Kilolo District of the Iringa region, confronts the challenge of accessing safe and clean water. The school serves a total of 84 students and 9 staff members.
Hillside relies on the Kilolo water system, rainwater during the rainy season, and a nearby stream. Additionally, there is a reserve tank to store water for domestic use. However, the monthly water fee of 250,000 Tshs is too expensive for the school, leading students to often resort to using water from the stream, which is typically unsafe.
The primary goal of this project is to ensure that the students at Hillside Secondary School have access to clean water. In collaboration with our implementing partner, St. Paul Partners, we will install a shallow borehole well equipped with a hand pump within the school premises. This initiative guarantees that students will have sufficient safe water, thereby increasing their classroom study time. Moreover, the availability of clean water is expected to greatly improve the health of not only the students and teachers but also the surrounding community members.
H2O for Life partners with experienced NGO organizations around the world that build and support clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education projects in schools. These NGO partners cover half the total cost of every project funded through H2O for Life.
When students raise money for a project, 90% of the funds go directly to the project, and 10% supports the work that makes the project possible. This includes choosing trusted partners, managing funds responsibly, checking on projects, and reporting back so students can see the impact of their work.
This helps ensure every project is done well, stays sustainable, and truly changes lives.
In rare situations, we reserve the right to reallocate funds to alternate project(s).
