Description: H2O for Life is a nonprofit organization based in White Bear Lake, MN that educates, engages and inspires youth to learn, take action and become global citizens.  We provide students with a unique and valuable learning experience through service-learning opportunities focused on the global water crisis. Our unique approach teaches H2O for Life students how they can make a tangible difference in their local community and implement sustainable social change in schools around the world.

As a nonprofit, our work is only possible thanks to the support of a large community of passionate supporters. H2O for Life’s Development Director will be the primary liaison between H2O for Life and our leading individual and foundation supporters.

Location: White Bear Lake, MN

H2O for Life seeks an experienced Development Director who will serve as the primary fundraiser for the organization. This individual will educate constituents about the needs of the organization and inspire their financial support. The Development Director is responsible for the creation, planning, implementation, and management of all programs to maximize contributed income, and will develop and deploy new fundraising strategies and programs to support the short and long-term goals and objectives of the organization.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Execute strategic fundraising plan in order to meet milestones in partnership with the Board of Directors, Founder, and Executive Director.
  • Identify, solicit, and engage corporate sponsors and/or foundation and individual donors.
  • Work with staff, board members, and selected individuals to ensure coordinated and effective solicitation of major gift prospects.
  • Cultivate and solicit assigned major gift prospects, corporate and foundation donors, and ensure that donors receive proper acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship. Maintain donor database.
  • Prepare written donor proposals for major gift solicitations and foundation grants; maintain correspondence with donors and appropriate financial personnel; manage progress reporting process.
  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Director to craft and execute an annual campaign.
  • Develop and create content for the newsletter for those that belong to the monthly giving campaign (The Well).
  • Work with staff, board members, and selected individuals to help plan both small and large events. This includes soliciting sponsors and attendees, working on event materials, and soliciting auction and raffle prizes. Attendance at the Water Ball and other Special Events is expected.
  • Prepare call reports in a timely manner.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Deep personal commitment to the mission and vision of the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, and the ability to generate enthusiasm and confidence from others.
  • Capacity to design and launch a campaign program.
  • Track record of securing major gifts from individuals (six figures preferred, five figures required).
  • Relevant campaign supervision/implementation experience.
  • Ability to identify and sustain support from new constituencies.
  • Keen interest in building a program with clear and substantial impact.
  • Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Strong sales personality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with individuals at all levels, both one-on-one and in groups.
