Women in STEAM - Wangari Maathai

Wangari Maathai was founder of the Green Belt movement in Africa and winner of the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize.  Her work was instrumental in widespread tree planting to stabilize communities, provide women with work and to protect ground water.  The companion lesson, "Deep Rooted Connections" investigate the role of plants and trees in soil water retention.
