"Penny Wars" February 1-25

February 1, 2022

Hello, Middle School Families,

As many of you know, we are reading the book A Long Walk to Water and are learning about the Global Water Crisis. During the month of February, our Middle School classes will be competing in a Penny War!

Why:
To raise money to help build a new Water Well in South Sudan.

Goal: Each grade level is competing to raise the most money for South Sudan School #4. Collect PENNIES and bring them in for your class, Jar. In the rules below, you will see how bringing in other coins and dollars can help your team win!

Rules: The grade level with the most pennies WINS!.  BUT… Silver coins and dollar bills are used against other grade levels by placing them in their penny jars. For example, if 6th grade places a quarter in the 7th-grade jar, 7th grade will lose 25 cents of their total value. Each grade level’s jar will be calculated on a weekly basis and posted in Google Classroom for all to see. Whichever grade level has raised the highest value by the end of the war will win a special treat. Good luck!!

Outcome: We hope that this fundraiser will create awareness about the Global Water Crisis and teach a valuable lesson for our students about helping each other. 100% of the proceeds collected will be donated to South Sudan School #4.

So, empty out those coin jars and check those couch cushions! Let the Penny Wars begin!
