Golden Lake Student Council and Students

Service Learning Project:
Sister City Kericho, Kenya

Golden Lake Elementary School is very proud of our Student Council Members and our students in grades Kindergarten through fifth. Our Golden Lake students are embarking on a world-wide service project. Our students will be working with H2O For Life, a non-profit organization, to help raise money to dig wells that will bring clean drinking water to the students of Chepkemel School in Kericho, Kenya.

It all started with one small project: students at Highview Middle School in Minnesota decided to raise money to fund a project in Kenya that would bring water to over 2000 people. They were so successful and so excited by the results that they just couldn't stop, and now we have H2O For Life!

The goal of H2O For Life is to match up schools in the US with schools in developing countries that don't have access to clean water. The schools in the US raise funds to help pay for water projects to deliver safe water to the students and teachers at their partner school. What a great idea! By connecting these schools directly to each other, everyone has an opportunity to learn some really valuable lessons.

Right now, H2O has schools in the US (mostly Minnesota) matched with schools in Kenya, Mozambique, Mali, and Nicaragua. There's great potential for this program to expand all across the US and the world though!
