Sipili Primary School
Sipili primary school is located in Sipili location, Ng’arua division in Laikipia West district of
Kenya. The school is about 71km from the nearest town, Nyahururu.
The school has an old ferrocement rainwater-harvesting tank that leaks and therefore cannot hold water. The only available storage is a small plastic tank that was donated by Laikipia county council and this serves as the main water storage structure. Sipili has good rainwater harvesting potential, which is attributed to the available large roof water catchment since all the classrooms are roofed with corrugated iron sheets. During the dry spell, the school buys water twice a week at a cost of 150 Kenya shillings (US$ 2) per day for its feeding program. The water bought is of very poor quality due to unhygienic handling by the vendors.
