The only available storage for rainwater is an old ferrocement tank. Murungai has good rainwater harvesting potential which is attributed to the available large roof water catchment since all the classrooms are roofed with corrugated iron sheets. During the dry spell the parents and children walk for about 12km to fetch water in a river which is not very clean. Walking the long distances affect the school learning and also the unclean water affects the attendance as children miss classes due to stomach aches caused by drinking the water.

On sanitation, the school has sub-standard pit latrines and the pupils do not have adequate water
to wash their hands after visiting the latrines. Currently the school has no hand washing facility
and this result into frequent occurrences of diarrhoea. Some of the latrines are constructed using
mad and have no doors.
